“ME” time, is there anything like “ME” time?
I used to wonder, what is this everyone talking about and how should I have my “ME” time.
Recently did I realize that there is nothing like “ME” time allotted to anyone. We have to make time from available time. That’s all!
If I can practice my yoga in the morning, I am more than happy for the day. We have to utilize whatever time we get. Even I was told to sleep whenever the baby sleeps but, I wanted to do so many things and I didn’t want to end up sleeping all the time. I realized we need this rest as we will be drained of energy after breastfeeding the baby. Slowly I picked up the things one by one and started my activities whenever the baby sleeps.
When your baby is young, they are dependent on us even for the basic things. We need to accept this and no kid wants to be dependent on parents for long and no kid asked us to get them out in this world. It was truly our choice. Accepting the truth brings many solutions. I realized this one thing and many things settled for me.
babies/kids need us during the initial days. Don’t stress yourself in trying to find a “ME” time. Whatever time you get, utilize that. Like my friend Neelufur Neelufer Mulla says “I am a fit mom, I don’t get time, I MAKE time”. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, how we utilize it is what matters the most. Some tips below to try managing your time.
Tips on managing time for New Mothers -
You need rest during the initial days after delivery. First 3 months, you need rest and care to settle yourself to some extent with the baby.
Start slow, on a gradual scale. Start with walking around the house. Every individual is different, you have to listen to your body and act accordingly.
Wake up before your baby wakes up, saves a lot of time and a lot can be achieved in the morning. You are fresh and not many thoughts are running in your mind yet.
You have to be committed to what you started. Whether 15 mins or 30 mins, make sure to practice every day. This is for you, not for others. This is to make you better and won’t affect others if you do not practice.
Cook simple food, saves time and energy. You can prepare special food when you are in a mood and have time.
Gossiping will drain your energy and time. Also not helping you in any way either for physical health or mental health.
Do not try to set wrong expectations by trying to do everything on your own. You need to ask for help. Asking for help does not make you any less of a human.
You can plan your meals the previous night based on your work the next day. Planning may not work every time but it will help you get an idea and saves time thinking about what to cook.
Do not overcook and refrigerate it. Cook how much is needed and cook fresh. Fresh food helps you in being energetic.
Last but not the least, only you can schedule your day better. No one else can do it for you. Do not overload yourself to do everything.
