Pregnancy testers are simple and a great tool to check pregnancy at home. But, have you thought about how our great grandmothers, grandmothers got to know if they are pregnant?
After watching so many movies, I really thought that either I would faint or puke before I got pregnant, but nothing of this sort happened. My granny knew it before anyone, the moment she saw me, she asked me whether I was pregnant. Not sure how she got to know, when I asked her, she just said I will get to know…
Maybe she didn't want to reveal her trade secrets, you see 🤷🏽♀️. They had their own ways of finding out, even without touching the other person. I guess our grandmothers had this quality in them and also I feel they would understand the energies of the opposite person.
Women are considered as better receptors to energies. Maybe that is why all kinds of restrictions started building up around this.
Anyway, women from older generations had their own ways of getting to know things. They had tips and tricks up their sleeve for almost anything. You ask and they would definitely have a solution.
Our intellectual brain does not allow us to accept what they say. It keeps looking for proofs and studies. We do have a lot of western influence in this aspect. We need proof of everything that is said.
It is good for some aspects, also needed I would say. But there are certain things that are beyond reasoning. By questioning and dissecting, we might lose its pure nature.
So, coming back to our home pregnancy tests. The tests given below may not be proven scientifically but they were followed for generations.
Here are some of the techniques that are time-tested and not lab-tested to check pregnancy at home. You would have to collect the urine from the morning.
Sugar test
In a bowl, take some sugar, add your urine to it. If the sugar starts dissolving. , then you are not pregnant. If the sugar starts forming clumps, then you are pregnant.
This is considered a very old technique to test pregnancy at home. But I was thinking Sugar is a refined version, so this technique may not be as old as you might want to think.
Now, don't ask me whether this was tried on jaggery. I have definitely not tested it either on sugar or jaggery. 🙄
But, you can always experiment at your home!
Salt test
This is similar to the sugar test. If the salt starts clumping, then you are pregnant. Else you are not.
Sounds so simple right? Such experiments are a stepping stone of inventions. Every household was mini-laboratory testing their own chemicals!⚗️
Baking soda
The idea here is to check if hCG in urine reacts with baking soda, causing fizzing or crackling.
Add urine to a roughly equal amount of baking soda. Wait a few minutes. If the baking soda does nothing, then you are not pregnant. If it fizzes, crackles, or bubbles, then you are pregnant.
Baking soda is a very common ingredient and is easily available too. Maybe pregnancy test strips also use some of these techniques! You never know… 🎉
Soap test
Take any kind of soap, keep it in a wide bowl. Pour around 2 tablespoons of urine over the soap, if it bubbles or shows some kind of reaction then you are pregnant. Else you are not pregnant.
No, don’t underestimate the simplicity of these tests! Maybe you can try it the next time you want to test your pregnancy and then see whether it passes the test or not.🎊
This test is touching the lower abdomen. Not sure how many can feel it right. But it is said that, if a woman is pregnant, the lower abdomen gets really warm. There is a change in the temperature.
As I said before, women in those days would listen to their bodies and pay very keen attention. They did not have an expert just a phone call away. They had to do some first aid at home before they reach out to an expert.
If you think of it, people were more inclined to nature those days than now. Their bodies were responding well to these tests.
Our lifestyle changes have distanced us from nature, the nature our body is thriving for, the nature that our body is made of. Once in a while, it is our responsibility to take our body and be with nature.
Let’s start listening to our bodies!
And don’t ask me for scientific backup of these tests! Try it and see if it works…
